Statement by the Boulgarides siblings
On Beate Zschäpe’s admission to the neo-Nazi drop-out program
Munich, August 6, 2025
I, Mandy Boulgarides, daughter of Theodoros Boulgarides, who was murdered in Munich in 2005 by the
right-wing terrorist NSU, am shocked and angry at the news that Beate
Zschäpe – convicted accomplice in the NSU murder series – is to be accepted into a neo-Nazi drop-out program
.
This plan is a scandal. It shows once again how this state protects perpetrators, opens up paths for them
and enables “resocialization” – while we survivors, survivors and relatives
have been ignored, put off and left in the lurch for years.
Zschäpe was sentenced to life imprisonment for particularly serious crimes. Nevertheless,
it seems that this is precisely what is now being watered down through the back door – through a taxpayer-funded
program that is open to an ideologically entrenched right-wing terrorist of all people.
Beate Zschäpe has forfeited her right to help from the state – just as must happen to any person
who helps or participates in extremist or terrorist structures or commits
acts. The constitutional state must not become a welfare state for perpetrators while leaving the
victims alone.
This woman showed no remorse for over two decades, did not help the investigation in any way and
never really admitted her responsibility during the trial. Instead, in her
testimony, she complained about a sad Christmas – because she had not received any presents – while
her accomplices Mundlos and Böhnhardt murdered people before and after. This level of
self-pity, denial of reality and moral coldness is staggering – and it cannot
be rehabilitated by a state-funded program.
While Zschäpe receives psychological support, protection and new perspectives
at our expense, we, the victims, are still fighting alone today. There is no comprehensive
psychological help, no secure financial support, no legal assistance, no active
political support – only bureaucracy, looking the other way and words of remembrance when it suits.
The political handling of the NSU is and remains an indictment of this state. The federal government and
states have failed. They have failed to investigate, they have failed to protect against right-wing
terror, they have failed to recognize and support those affected.
As a family, we despise this decision. It is an expression of a policy that integrates perpetrators
and marginalizes victims. The disrespectful treatment of survivors continues – cool,
controlled, but consistent.
We demand:
Consistent and sustainable support for victims of right-wing violence – psychological,
legal, financial and institutional.
An immediate disclosure and independent review of the decision to admit Beate Zschäpe to a
dropout program.
An immediate stop to any benefits or prison facilities for them.
A clear political and legal stance: anyone who participates in terrorist structures,
loses the right to state welfare.
As long as perpetrators are protected and cared for,
while we are expected to carry on in silence, there is no question of justice.
