Learning and unlearning

Methodological handbook for a racism-critical reappraisal of the NSU-Komplex

The publication “Vom Lernen und Verlernen – Methodenhandbuch zur rassismuskritischen Aufarbeitung des NSU-Komplex” brings together texts and methods that focus on (post-)migrant, activist and academic perspectives on the NSU-Komplex.

Almost 15 years after the NSU unmasked itself, the method handbook points out gaps in the reappraisal and possibilities for dealing with the topic in and out of school. In 22 articles, 9 methods, numerous print templates and worksheets as well as a glossary, the publication provides teaching material on the NSU-Komplex for schools (recommended from 9th grade) and extracurricular educational contexts.

Based on Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak’s concept of “unlearning”, the methods open up paths for educational processes in which the confrontation with racism and right-wing terror is linked to a questioning of privileges, social positions and power relations.

Numerous methods also refer to artistic works from the exhibition Offener Prozess, curated by Ayşe Güleç and Fritz Laszlo Weber.

The methods manual was developed as part of the “Offener Prozess” project sponsored by ASA-FF e.V. in cooperation with Courage-Werkstatt für demokratische Bildungsarbeit e.V. (NDC Saxony). (NDC Saxony) in cooperation with Almuth Heinrich, Ayşe Güleç, BiLaN – “Bildungsinitiative Lernen aus dem NSU-Komplex”, Birgit Mair, Chana Dischereit, Danilo Starosta, Fritz Laszlo Weber, Gabriel Liebetrau, Hannah Zimmermann, Heike Kanter, Heike Kleffner, Jörg Buschmann, Lisa Bendiek, Lisa Wildenhain, Martina Klaus, Theo Treihse, Verband Deutscher Sinti und Roma Landesverband Baden-Württemberg e.V., (VDSR-BW), Werdauer Initiative against Racism (W.I.R.)
