With “Remember the Future”, the public space itself becomes a place of remembrance and learning. The app invites visitors to immerse themselves in an augmented reality experience via their own smartphone and explore the urban space in a new way. The digital intervention makes the local interconnections of the NSU complex visible and shows how closely right-wing terror was linked to structures in Chemnitz.
At the same time, a virtual place of remembrance is being created – in places where there are still gaps in public space in terms of remembrance policy. The app thus creates a digital level of remembrance and makes perspectives and stories visible that often remain invisible in the urban space itself. It is available in German, English and Turkish.
