An inconspicuous bicycle with a hard-shell suitcase became a deadly weapon on June 9, 2004: a nail bomb exploded in front of a hairdressing salon in Keupstraße, injuring 22 people, some of them seriously. The bicycle and suitcase symbolize the perfidious actions of the NSU (National Socialist Underground). Next to it are a carpenter’s nail and a rain pipe with a hammered-in nail – silent but haunting testimonies to the destructive power of this bomb, which was equipped with over 700 carpenter’s nails. They stand for the network of right-wing violence that changed the everyday lives of those affected forever.
